ALPINE berry FARM
-------------------- LOCAL BERRIES, RECIPES, PHOTOS, AND ARTWORK. --------------------
UPDATE: August 13, 2025
We are now closed for the season. Thank you very much to everyone for your interest and support of our small farm. It is a lot of work for us, but each time we see the joy on both children's and adult's faces when they pick blueberries - it makes it all worth it. Please keep supporting all small, local farms. We need them!
A few jars of BLUEBERRY BLOSSOM HONEY IS STILL AVAILABLE . It is delicious, as usual. Packaged in glass jars.
What to Know
- Price reduced - $3.00 per pound u-pick. $7/pint picked (limited pre-picked availability, text your name to Kathy and we will reach out when they are available)
- We accept checks and cash and zelle. We do not accept credit cards.
- Please bring clean containers to take your berries home in.
Safety
- We do not recommend flip flops or sandals in our patch.
- We do have poison ivy in the patch. We are doing our best, but this wet weather has made it much worse than usual. We recommend wearing long pants for those that are sensitive. We also have a wide variety of sizes of rubber boots. Bring socks and borrow our boots if you like.
- We cannot allow dogs on our farm.
- Wear sunscreen and a hat and bug repellent if you are susceptible to bites.
- Bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated on hotter days.
Current Information about the Farm
- The birds and other wildlife are getting their fair share this year. We continue to raise our blueberries without any chemicals - we do not use herbicides or pesticides and our fertilizer is certified organic. For those not familiar with us, we are a VERY small farm - less than 1 acre of blueberries. But it is VERY fun to come to our farm.
- We will be using facebook to post current picking condtions. We will post on this website if blueberries are available to pick.
- If you are interested in receiving a group text notification - please share your name and cell number with Kathy by texting directly to her cell phone: 812-212-2605.
- We will not be taking reservations ahead of time, rather we plan to put in our weekly text which days we hope to be picking and how many people we can accomodate. Stay tuned for more information.
Honey
IF YOU HAVEN'T TRIED OUR HONEY, YOU SHOULD!
We will have our raw, local blueberry blossom honey for sale, packaged in glass containers. Price to be determined once the harvest is complete in mid July Clint Bohman keeps about 3 - 4 hives at our farm. He keeps the honey from our farm separate from the honey from his other hives. So we call the honey we sell at ABF, blueberry blossom honey because we can only imagine that many of the bees visit our bushes while the berries are blooming!
Medium (12 oz ) - $8
Large (22 oz) - $15
extra large (46 oz) - $30

About:
Ted and Kathy Cooley operate a small berry patch specializing in u-pick naturally raised blueberries.
Description:
We raise our blueberries using organic fertilizer, and no herbicides or pesticides. We have been in operation since 1990. We have a cool, 120 year old restored barn where we sell our berries. Restrooms, water, picnic table and chairs (indoor and outdoor) are available for you to take a break from picking. It is a perfect family activity and we love to have children come and see how food is grown. Ted and Kathy are committed to providing "blueberries at their best!"
We support all of our local farmers and hope that you will too! Just a few options to consider:
1. THE BATESVILLE FARMERS MARKET ON SATURDAY MORNINGS where you fill find lots more fresh, locally grown produce, meat and eggs, baked goods and crafts.
2. Green Acres (formerly Michaela Farm) in Oldenburg. They have a farm store that is open now. Check out their website: https://green-acres.org/michaela-farm-store-product-availability/
BLUEBERRY POINTERS:
Choose fresh blueberries that are plump and have a solid, dark blue color. • Do not wash blueberries until you are ready to eat them, as washing will remove the bloom (or silvery coating) that protects the berries’ skin from degradation. • Blueberries can be frozen, dried, or canned so that you can enjoy them year round! • Blueberries will stay fresh for up to 10 days weeks if they are stored in a shallow, covered container in the refrigerator.
